Construction site chaos at the weekend: A43, A42 and more closed!
On the weekend of June 28, 2025, drivers in North Rhine-Westphalia will face major challenges. Construction sites on the highways will certainly cause detours and traffic jams. On Saturday, June 28th, the Night of Industrial Culture will also take place in the Ruhr area, which will put additional strain on traffic.
The focus of this night is on connecting visitors. Therefore, additional bus connections and more frequent services are offered to cope with the increasing number of guests. The shuttle buses run between the various locations from 6 p.m. to 2 a.m. and it's worth using the combination tickets, which allow free use of local public transport.
Construction work on the highways
Particularly affected routes include the A43, the A42 and the A45. The A43 between Recklinghausen and Bochum will be closed from Friday, 9 p.m., until July 7th, 5 a.m. Bridge demolition work and the construction of a new bridge are taking place here. Alternative routes must be followed via the A45.
There is not only a lot of construction activity on the roads, the railways are also affected: the Oberhausen – Emmerich route will be closed from Thursday, 9 p.m. until August 25th, which is due to extensive modernization work. This situation will be exacerbated by further closures and restrictions on the Oberhausen – Wesel – Emmerich train route until May 2026.
Digital traffic information and forecasts
In order to at least be able to exploit the advantages of a digital solution, we recommend using ADAC Maps. This app shows traffic flow and short-term disruptions in real time, so drivers can reschedule in good time. Future departure times and days can also be conveniently found out here, which can reduce stress and wasted time. This information is available not only for motorways, but also for federal highways and urban areas.
In addition, the Association of German Transport Companies (VDV) offers comprehensive insights into current developments in the area of local public transport in its annual report. This information is particularly valuable in giving public transport users a better picture of how infrastructure is developing and what progress is being made to sustainably improve local public transport.
So if you want to be out and about on the weekend, you should be well informed to avoid traffic jams and detours. Whether in the car or on the train — preparations are essential for a stress-free journey to destinations in the region!
For further information about the construction sites and the current traffic volume, we recommend taking a look at the reports from WDR, the ADAC Maps and the statistics of the VDV.
