Clara Bielefeld: From the Abitur exam to the European Basketball Championship – a huge talent!
What an exciting phase in Clara Bielefeld's life! The 17-year-old basketball player has experienced a lot in the last few days and can look back on her first successes. She has just passed her oral Abitur exam in geography at the Petrinum-Gymnasium in Recklinghausen. The exam took place last week and on Tuesday in Hamburg the good news came: She passed! Sports picture reports that Clara found the exam period quite stressful as she had to study for EuroBasket preparation and concentrate on exams at the same time.
In just a few days, Clara faces a new challenge with the first game of the European Championship. On Thursday she will play against Sweden in Hamburg at 8 p.m. Originally, Clara had only planned a short stay in the A squad under national coach Lisa Thomaidis, but she has proven with impressive performances that she is a talent to be taken seriously. Particularly noteworthy: the world association FIBA lists her as the only German in its “20 under 20” list of the greatest European talents.
A big step in the basketball world
Clara Bielefeld can plan for an exciting career because at the end of July she is flying to the USA to play basketball at Texas Christian University (TCU) in Fort Worth and at the same time study medicine and sports. Even though she is looking forward to it, she will skip the Abi Ball in Recklinghausen to take part in the U18 European Championships in Lithuania, which takes place from July 4th to 13th. A true sign of their dedication!
The basketball scene in Germany is currently on the upswing. The Daily Mirror points out that the German national team is not one of the favorites for the title, but still has great ambitions. Coach Lisa Thomaidis has been in office since 2023 and has the goal of winning a medal with the team. Preparation was mixed as some key players, such as captain Marie Gülich, were injured and could not take part.
An experience among the best
In addition to her exams and the upcoming European Championship game, Clara took part in a special camp: Basketball without Borders Europe in Málaga, Spain. The German Basketball Association highlights that Clara was the only female German participant among 30 talented players. There she had the opportunity to work with NBA and WNBA coaches and receive valuable feedback. She describes the experience as educational and a great honor to train with the best players of her age.
The coming days are crucial for Clara Bielefeld and the German women's team. The impressive achievements and commitment of young talents like Clara could usher in a new era in German basketball. One thing is clear: the team has great potential and many fans are hoping for a bright future for German women's basketball.
