U19 from Holstein Kiel fails in the DFB Cup – U17 triumphs!
October 6, 2025 was not a pleasant day for the U19s of Holstein Kiel. Coach Freddy Kaps' team lost 2-0 to Arminia Bielefeld in the DFB Cup. After the Kiel team controlled the game in the first half and created numerous chances, the longed-for goal didn't materialize. So they went into the break with a score of 0-0, without any effort to show themselves on the offensive being rewarded. But the second half quickly brought two yellow cards for Kiel and a painful turnaround in the course of the game: in the 56th minute, Unruh gave Bielefeld a 1-0 lead and only a short time later in the 77th minute, Yasar made it 2-0. A painful setback for the team, who despite their best efforts could not find an answer.
But not everything was lost for the Holsteiners on this October weekend. The U17 celebrated a hard-fought 4-2 win against SC Paderborn. Under the direction of coach Maximilian Grobler, Kiel got off to a brilliant start and led 2-0 after just six minutes thanks to goals from Benninghoff and Cengiz. However, Paderborn did not give up and equalized to 2-2 before half-time. But Kiel showed itself to be resolute: Benninghoff scored his brace in the 52nd minute with a penalty kick, before von Diczelski scored the decisive 4-2 in the 64th minute. A positive sign for the team, which remains on the road to success.
Pleasing performances from the other youth teams
The good news for Holstein Kiel doesn't stop there. The U16 also performed well and celebrated a clear 6-0 win against SV Curslack-Neuengamme. This means the U16s continue to be successful in the league, with an impressive 16 goals in their last three games. A strong performance that makes you want more and shows that the young talent in Kiel is on the right path.
For the U15, however, the weekend was mixed. They drew 1-1 with USC Paloma, with late goals from both sides showing how close the game was. The U14 played a 3-3 draw against VfB Lübeck, while the U12 suffered a 1-4 defeat against TSG Concordia Schönkirchen. These results partly reflect the challenges that also have to be overcome in the youth sector.
