Fire and rescue station on Lievelingsweg: New building sets standards!

The renovation of the current fire and rescue station on Lievelingsweg in Bonn is progressing. The winning design for the planned new building was recently announced, which comes from the renowned Stuttgart architectural firm Riehle Koeth GmbH & Co. KG. This design relies on a striking red facade, which impressively underlines the function of the guard and is intended to be a real eye-catcher from Bornheimer Straße. How ga.de reports, the new building is planned as a replacement for the existing, outdated L-shaped building, which is not only in poor condition but also has a high energy requirement.

With around 250 employees, the new building will combine both fire and rescue service areas as well as necessary offices and workshops under one roof. This happens in two stages during ongoing operations, which represents a particular challenge for the construction process. The new premises are intended to create modern working conditions and upgrade the location in terms of urban development, according to the Bonn City Council, which decided on the planning competition on September 26, 2024 bonn.de presented in detail.

Sustainable construction and modern requirements

The new design meets the highest requirements for climate and energy standards. The building envelope and primary energy consumption should at least correspond to Efficiency House Standard 40 to ensure resource conservation. In addition, common areas are air-conditioned and the use of sustainable materials is firmly planned. In this context, the following aspect is also important: Fire stations are demanding construction projects due to their special usage requirements, as emergency services prepare for their operations in them and different usage zones such as garages, offices and lounges have to be combined with one another architekturmeldeen.de explained.

The arrangement of vehicle halls and maneuvering areas was cleverly designed to enable optimal integration with the workshops and administration. This strategic planning is intended not only to improve the work processes of the emergency services, but also to help defuse the noise situation in the adjacent residential area on Zeisigweg.

The next step to implementation

Jochen Stein, the head of the Bonn fire and rescue service, sees the competition as a significant step towards a sustainable solution for the fire department. “This new building will be a second home for our employees,” says Maren Bella, division manager, summarizing the importance of the new building. Petra Denny, head of the city planning office, describes the winning design as a strong accent in the commercial district.

The exhibition of the submitted competition entries will take place in the town hall from June 18th to July 2nd, with an opening on June 18th at 5 p.m. Visiting times are Mondays and Thursdays from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. The general planning services will be awarded promptly, while the further development of the development plan runs parallel and politics will soon be involved. The time required for planning to obtain building permits is estimated to be around two years before construction work can finally begin.
