The work contains numerous contributions from prominent external authors, including: Prof. Dr.-Ing. Manfred Fischdick from the Wuppertal Institute for Climate, Environment, Energy and Garrelt Duin, the regional director of the Ruhr regional association. A call for sustainability

For Mayor Bernd Tischler, the book launch was a personal highlight of his term in office - he also wrote an article. On this occasion he emphasized the importance of sustainability for Bottrop and the development towards a climate city. Stefanie Wagner-Arndt from neomediaVerlag described the book as a “declaration of love” to the city’s history and invites everyone to discover the stories and projects that accompany Bottrop on its path to climate neutrality.

A central aspect of the book is the documentation of the diverse sustainability projects initiated by Bottrop companies. These are illuminated in editorial articles in order to give readers an insight into the innovative design of the future.

Master plan for the climate city of Bottrop

Another important step towards achieving climate neutrality in Bottrop is the master plan developed by the ICM is developed. This plan aims to ensure the efficient and sustainable implementation of conceptual foundations for the entire city. The basic phase includes a comprehensive analysis of the current state, while in the concept and participation phase the development goals and quality characteristics are defined in a participatory process. Collaboration with external project sponsors is very important.

The master plan will specifically cover areas of action such as living, working, energy and mobility, while an overarching strategy emphasizes the importance of a neighborhood approach for urban development. In the long term, Bottrop should become a prime example of climate neutrality in Germany.
