Hermann-Josef Vogt is running again: Will he bring change in the district?

On June 24, 2025, Hermann-Josef Vogt will again apply for the office of district administrator in the Coesfeld district. The approval of his candidacy now seems to be seen as a formality. In his statement, Johannes Waldmann, the sub-district chairman of the SPD, highlights the qualifications and experience of Vogt, who has already run for office in the past and would now like to offer himself to the voters again. Vogt is not only a civil engineer for the city of Bocholt, but also a family man: at 63, he is a new grandfather and has two adult children, which should give him a strong awareness of intergenerational fairness.

In his political career, which has spanned more than 35 years, Vogt has held a variety of positions. He has served as chairman of the SPD Coesfeld for over a decade, was previously deputy chairman and also played an active role in the Coesfeld council and the Coesfeld district council. He is now bringing this extensive experience into his election campaign, the focus of which includes, among other things, improving the infrastructure, daycare provision, security and strengthening vocational colleges. A central concern here is the reduction of daycare fees and the modernization of the rescue stations. The SPD is also planning to renovate the Pictorius in Coesfeld with the aim of developing it into an attractive vocational college in Münsterland.

Criticism and challenges

Despite serious efforts in the past, Vogt criticizes the fact that not enough progress has been made on the issues addressed. When he last ran for office five years ago, he was against the incumbent Dr. Christian Schulze Pellengahr competed and was left behind. The SPD has not yet appointed its own district administrator in the Coesfeld district, which underlines the importance of its current attempt. Vogt does not simply see himself as a “counting candidate”, but would like to make a tangible offer to voters. He also emphasizes that he is interested in constructive cooperation with the CDU regardless of the election outcome.

He describes his pragmatic approach as a move away from dogmatism. Vogt highlights the differences in demeanor and worldview compared to his competitors. This is also visible in the upcoming election campaign, which usually begins a year before the election after the previous election and takes place in several phases. The mobilization of the electorate and the central presentation of campaign issues are crucial here.

A versatile person

Vogt not only has political ambitions, but is also involved in various honorary positions, including at Ver.di, VCD and ADFC. In his free time he enjoys table tennis, cycling, sailing and the mountain air. With his extensive professional and political experience as well as his commitment to the community and intergenerational justice, he brings some good arguments to rally voters behind him.

With the election campaign planning and the mobilization of supporters, it will now be exciting to see what the coming election period has in store for Hermann-Josef Vogt. The clear goal: to win the votes of the citizens in the Coesfeld district and to put the SPD in a strong position.
