Parking lot in Coesfeld: Planned redesign will bring more space and safety!

Something is happening in Coesfeld! The city has ambitious plans for the redesign of the parking lot at the sports grounds, a measure that has already been recorded in an initial draft. According to the information from azonline Construction work should begin after further work has been completed. The aim is to improve the availability of parking spaces in order to accommodate the high frequency of use, especially during events.

There are currently 35 parking spaces available to visitors, which are marked by white lines on the asphalt. Interestingly, the local sports club put forward a proposal for a diagonal arrangement of the parking spaces, which the city of Coesfeld took into account. This measure promises optimized use of the available space, although the number of parking spaces should remain the same.

Sustainable measures and accessibility

Another important aspect of the redesign is improving accessibility. In line with the research project on the accessibility of sports facilities, which is supported by the Federal Ministry of Housing, Urban Development and Construction, the aim is to make it easier for people with disabilities to access sports and leisure activities. This initiative, about the project urban development funding initiated, aims to identify and break down existing barriers in the urban sports facility infrastructure.

In addition, the parking lot will be provided with grass pavers and elephant grass planting, which will improve the infiltration ability of rainwater and improve the microclimate. Bypass areas and parking spaces for people with disabilities will have a completely barrier-free surface, which will make the use of the site much easier.

Multifunctional hall and further developments

The planned multifunctional hall on Reiningstrasse is also related to this redesign. The city council has decided to replace the old changing rooms at the West Sports Center with a new, barrier-free building that will be built by DJK Eintracht. On this occasion, the existing basketball field will also be converted into a small artificial turf playing area. In order to ensure that sports operations continue smoothly, DJK Eintracht will inform residents about the construction process and any possible effects.

In addition, a small basketball field for 3×3 basketball and the conversion of a larger basketball field into a small artificial turf playing field are planned in front of the multifunctional hall. These measures show that the city is not only working to upgrade the infrastructure, but also to create a sensible and sustainable concept that benefits both the community and the environment.

The city of Coesfeld not only has a good knack for developing sports facilities, but is also setting the course for an inclusive society that brings all citizens on board. Let's stay tuned to see how the plans will develop in the coming months!
