Strong game: Düren defeated Herrsching 3-0 in the cup round of 16!
The SWD powervolleys Düren delivered a fantastic performance in the cup round of 16 on November 8, 2025. With a clear 3-0 win against WWK Volleys Herrsching, the team convinced across the board. The set results of 25:18, 25:22 and 25:17 speak for themselves. The Düren attackers were very precise in their attack: 63.27 percent of their attempts led directly to points. Particularly noteworthy was the performance of Robin Baghdady, who successfully completed a sensational 90 percent of his attacks. The service performance was also impressive: the Düren team conjured up a total of 11 aces in three sets, which made coach Christophe Acht** very satisfied. He praised the team for their smart decisions and excellent implementation of the game strategy.
In the Volleyball Bundesliga, Düren once again underlined its strength with the same opponent. Here too they won 3-0, this time with the set ratios 25:22, 25:21 and 25:20. Thanks to this victory, the powervolleys return to the top of the table, especially after Helios Grizzlys Giesen lost 0:3 against the Berlin Recycling Volleys. Düren remains unbeaten over the course of the season and has won all matches in seven competitive games, losing only three sets. Managing director Tomas Kocian-Falkenbach was enthusiastic about the team performance and the atmosphere in the Arena Kreis Düren.
A challenging game
Like the first match against Herrsching, the second game also showed that things weren't easy for Düren. Coach Acht had initial concerns, but the players convinced him and turned things around. In the first set, Düren quickly led 11:7, influenced by powerful serves and blocking actions from Petteri Tyynismaa and Ryan Poole. Player Siebe Korenblek made a decisive contribution to Düren's lead. In the second set, Herrsching managed to take the lead with 13:11, but Düren quickly took control again.
Jordan Canham was able to secure the second set with a strong serve and a successful counterattack for Düren. The third set went right from the start in Düren's favor, who kept their focus until the end. Even though Herrsching applied pressure on the serve, mistakes by the opponents led to clear Düren control (20:16 in the third set). In the end, Canham blocked the decisive point to make it 23:19, which secured Düren's victory.
The look forward
Düren is now turning his attention to the next challenge: an away game against the Helios Grizzlys Giesen is coming up. Apart from the sporting successes, coach Acht is hoping for a home game in the cup quarter-finals. This incentive also motivates the team to stay in top form and continue on the path to success. It is important for Düren to maintain their level in future games in order to defend their top position in the league.
The performance of the powervolleys, both in the cup and in the Bundesliga, underlines an impressive team game that inspires both coaches and fans. If the team continues to perform like this, it will be exciting to see where their journey takes them this season.
