Alarming increase: 36% more spam calls in Hamburg and Düsseldorf!
In recent weeks, complaints about annoying spam calls in Germany have been increasing, with fraudsters pretending to be competition employees, lottery subscribers or even consumer advocates. According to a recent report by Ruhr24 The number of harassing calls increased by a whopping 36% compared to the previous month. The unwanted calls come particularly frequently from cities such as Hamburg and Düsseldorf, and the Federal Network Agency and the consumer advice center are overwhelmed by the daily complaints.
The callers' scams are anything but new, but the approach is becoming increasingly bold. The aim is to elicit a “yes” from the person being called or even to obtain bank details. In fact, following such unauthorized phone calls, consumers often receive invoices or contract documents that claim consent has been given. It is reported that these conversations are even manipulated to insert “yes” where appropriate. A clear trick that only aims to lure those affected into a trap.
A look at the top spam callers
Consumers can remember the unpleasant callers using, among other things, the following telephone numbers, which were recorded by “Clever Dialer” in September 2025. The most common spam numbers are:
- 040 855997157 (Hamburg) – 1.572 Blockierungen
- 040 855997156 (Hamburg) – 1.176 Blockierungen
- 040 29996651 (Hamburg) – 637 Blockierungen
- 0211 95586819 (Düsseldorf) – 976 Blockierungen
- 0211 95586817 (Düsseldorf) – 849 Blockierungen
- 040 855983150 (Hamburg) – 1.197 Blockierungen
- 0211 95586820 (Düsseldorf) – 460 Blockierungen
- 0211 95586818 (Düsseldorf) – 681 Blockierungen
- 015510 544039 (Mobilfunk) – 358 Blockierungen
- 02131 5989892 (Neuss) – 272 Blockierungen
The risks associated with such calls are significant. Consumers who fall for the tricks can expect unauthorized debits, fake contracts or psychological stress from constant calls. The consumer advice center therefore recommends being extremely vigilant in such situations.
Tips against annoying callers
What is the best way to handle such calls? The consumer advice center advises never to give out personal information over the phone and to ask callers their name, company and the reason for the call. Instead of simply saying “yes,” respond in complete sentences, such as “I hear you.” Clearly rejecting the offer is also important. If you receive invoices, those affected should take active action against them and possibly use sample letters to defend against unjustified claims.
Another important sign of dubious calls are inappropriate times such as calls before 8 a.m. or after 8 p.m. Several call attempts a day and silent silence after the call is answered should also make you listen up.
The consumer advice center recommends blocking affected phone numbers immediately and documenting the incident, including the content of the conversation and caller details. It is important not to remain alone - educating people in your personal environment about the risks and scams of these callers is crucial to help others better protect themselves in the future.
