Major fire in Borbeck: Fire brigade saves forest from flames!
On Wednesday evening, June 18th, the fire department in Essen-Borbeck was alerted when flames were reported on Grasstrasse at around 10:18 p.m. What appeared to be a small incident quickly turned out to be a major fire: a wood warehouse with an area of around 30 square meters was engulfed in flames. The height of the flames was so threatening that they threatened to spread to the adjacent vegetation and forest, prompting the fire department to deploy intensively.
The emergency services were alerted immediately. The operational command requested additional forces to cope with the operation. The Borbeck, Stadthafen and Kray fire stations as well as the Essen-Kupferdreh volunteer fire department responded with a large contingent. The fire department used several B and C jet pipes to prevent the fire from spreading. However, since the fire was in a massive pile of wood, superficial control was not possible. In fact, the emergency services had their hands full.
Intensive extinguishing work
In order to deal with the inferno, the municipal green space department Grün and Gruga was called in. A grab excavator was used to pull apart the burning wood and extinguish the embers. The extinguishing work continued late into the night and lasted a total of around six hours. At its peak, there were up to 25 firefighters on site who worked tirelessly to bring the fire under control.
Despite the rapid intervention of the fire brigade, the cause of the fire remains unclear. The police have started an investigation to find out what caused the huge fire. While the flames have been extinguished in Essen-Borbeck, there are ongoing fire hazards in other regions. According to a report, fires in data centers, for example, can also have massive consequences, with the most common causes being overheating and fires, which occur every five minutes in Germany. These alarming statistics show the importance of effective fire safety measures.
The Borbeck incident highlights the challenges involved and the need for rapid response fire services to prevent major disasters. The emergency services acted with bravura and commitment to prevent anything worse from happening. A quick and coordinated response is crucial, especially in outbreaks of this kind.
