Brawl in Gelsenkirchen: Four injured in a family dispute!
In Gelsenkirchen, on June 26, 2025, at around 9:50 p.m., there was a grotesque argument between two families, which culminated in Bronnerstrasse in the Bulmke-Hüllen district. A dispute that initially began on a small scale between children quickly developed into a full-scale commotion involving around 20 people. The police had to intervene to separate the opponents after four people, including a child aged just twelve, were injured. A 19-year-old had used a walking stick that acted as a striking weapon and was confiscated by the police. Investigations are already underway and several criminal proceedings for dangerous bodily harm have been initiated, as Radio Emscher Lippe reports.
Such incidents are not uncommon in the region. As early as September 2023, there was a fatal fight between two groups in Gelsenkirchen. A man had to be taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries after a bloody altercation, where he ultimately died. These violent clashes in the Bulmke-Hüllen district were observed by several passers-by. Although the police are treating the background with caution, it is noted that these are personal conflicts that have already caused tension in the past. Two suspects have already been taken into custody and video footage recorded by some eyewitnesses is currently being evaluated. Details about the age or gender of the deceased are not yet known, as Westfälische Anzeiger reports.
Vicious circle of violence
These incidents highlight the increasing violent crime in Germany, which is rising again in recent years despite a decline in society as a whole. In 2024, around 217,000 violent crimes were registered, the highest number since 2007. The proportion of young perpetrators is particularly striking: around a third of the suspects are younger than 21 years old. This development is explained, among other things, by economic uncertainties and social pressures. Studies show that violent crimes make up less than 4% of all crimes recorded by the police, but have a strong influence on the population's sense of security, as Statista shows.
The police in Gelsenkirchen are taking measures to control the violence. It should be noted that the complexity of the situation, which also includes drug abuse and psychological stress, makes it difficult to research the causes. It is all the more important not to view such acts of violence as isolated cases, but to improve social structures in order to guarantee a safe and peaceful life for everyone.
