A tragic accident attracted attention in Gütersloh on Sunday evening. Shortly before 9 p.m., a serious collision occurred between two vehicles at the intersection of Marienfelder Straße and Nordring, involving a total of eight people. According to nw.de, a 66-year-old driver of a Mercedes wanted to turn left and overlooked an oncoming VW Touran that was being driven by a 38-year-old woman.
The collision was violent, causing a vehicle to crash into a sign on the center island. While the four children in the VW Touran, aged 7, 9, 10 and 14, surprisingly remained uninjured, some passengers still suffered injuries: A 40-year-old passenger had to be taken to hospital, but was released after a short time. The quick reaction of the emergency services reporting on hallo24.de was crucial: a “mass casualty incident” (MANV) was triggered, which meant that numerous rescue vehicles and emergency doctors were called into action.

The fire department and several rescue vehicles were on site in a very short time. The fire department operations manager quickly gave the all-clear after everyone affected had been looked after and cared for. The situation was serious, but the rapid intervention of the emergency services prevented anything worse from happening. In addition to medical care, the inmates were also provided with blankets for the initial shock.
However, both vehicles suffered significant damage and had to be towed away. The estimated material damage amounts to around 25,150 euros. In order to secure the scene of the accident and ensure evacuation, the Nordring remained closed in the direction of Bielefeld for around 1.5 hours.
