Woman stabbed to death in front of her children in Hagen – perpetrator in custody

A tragic incident occurred on Wednesday evening in Hagen, North Rhine-Westphalia, in which a 31-year-old woman was killed with a knife by her partner, a 37-year-old Syrian. The woman's children were present in the apartment at the time of the incident. Loud Picture The police were alerted at around 10:50 p.m. by a screaming girl. By the time emergency services arrived, it was already too late to save the woman's life, despite all efforts to resuscitate her in the hospital.

The crime took place in the apartment on Märkischer Ring, where the police found the suspect and arrested him without resistance. The following Thursday he was brought before a judge and is now in custody. A murder squad has started the investigation, but the background and possible motive for the crime remain unclear. Emergency pastors looked after the traumatized children who had witnessed the crime.

Escalation of violent crimes

Unfortunately, similar incidents are not uncommon. Shortly after the tragic murder in Hagen, a stabbing involving up to 30 people was reported on December 22nd, in which a 19-year-old was seriously injured. Fortunately, his injuries are no longer life-threatening, while a 23-year-old was treated on an outpatient basis with minor injuries. Come on reported a large police presence necessary to bring the situation under control, while several suspects were arrested.

The increase in acts of violence, particularly against women, is a worrying phenomenon. In 2023, there were 155 femicides, i.e. killings of women by partners or ex-partners, in Germany, which represents an increase of 22 cases compared to the previous year. These frightening figures are not an isolated case SWP shows. The incidents in Berlin include two fatal knife attacks within a week, underscoring the urgency of the issue.

With these tragedies in mind, it is clear that society is required to develop solutions and prevention strategies to prevent further violence against women. It is hoped that such incidents can be prevented in the future.
