Sonorous strings: Upper Lusatia Chamber Music Festival inspires in August!

Things will once again be musically colorful in Upper Lusatia: the chamber music festival will take place from August 15th to 22nd, 2025, and a real treat awaits visitors! The Scharoun Ensemble of the Berliner Philharmoniker will let its sounds echo through the region's historic backdrops for the first time. Over 100 musicians from the international music world are taking part, bringing with them a varied program with works by greats such as Mozart, Telemann, Vivaldi, Corelli and Handel.

A total of nine concerts will take place in the charming surroundings at seven special venues, including four magnificent castles: Gröditz, Bad Muskau, Berthelsdorf and Königshain, as well as three venerable churches in Baruth, Ebersbach and Zittau. The opening concert takes place in the Baruther Church with the Dresden Kapellsolisten under the direction of Helmut Branny. With such top-class artists, this event will probably be a real highlight of the region's musical summer!

Diverse program and international guests

What would a festival be without special attractions? The chamber music festival offers an entertaining highlight with an open-air family concert by the big band “Klangfarben” in Gröditz. Special performances by the Ensemble Polyharmonique with the Batzdorfer Hofkapelle and the Moritzburg Festival Orchestra with the talented violinist Mira Wang are also on the program. Another musical delight comes from Nils Mönkemeyer, an internationally celebrated violist who has been part of the festival since the beginning and whose artistic qualities are valued in the music world.

Another highlight will be the Ukrainian accordion virtuoso Alexandr Hrustevich, who will perform in the baroque Königshain Palace. This diversity of talents and styles underlines the high artistic quality of the festival, says director Dr. Hagen W. Lippe-Weissenfeld. Speaking of quality: around 80 percent of the artists performing have Saxon roots or are based in Saxony, which gives the festival a special regional touch.

New concept with KunstBUS

There is an exciting innovation for festival visitors this year: in collaboration with the KunstBUS Oberlausitz, shuttle services will be set up between the various venues. This means that guests can fully enjoy the unique atmosphere and historical locations without having to worry about getting there. This makes it much easier to absorb the atmosphere of the festival!

Take a look at the official website of the festival and the Oberlausitz Art and Culture Foundation for further information and ticket bookings. There is a wide range of music festivals in Germany, especially in chamber music, as the German Music Information Center emphasizes. But the Oberlausitz Chamber Music Festival stands out for its creative programming and the high concentration of musical talent, which makes it a real insider tip for music lovers.

Just imagine the date in the calendar – it will definitely be an unforgettable experience!
