After Strobel's disappearance in 2005 while staying at a campsite in Lismore, her naked body was found under palm fronds a few days later. An argument with her boyfriend Tobias Moran, who was initially the main suspect, took place before her disappearance. However, the charges against him were dropped in 2023 due to a lack of evidence. The expert now advises reanalyzing two unassigned DNA traces: a hair at the crime scene and male DNA that was found on Strobel's clothing.
