Günter Feldhege is celebrating 60 years in the Wanne-Eickel mini golf club!
On June 23, 2025, the MGC Rot-Weiß Wanne-Eickel mini golf club celebrated a very special event. In honor of Günter Feldhege, who has been a member of the club for 60 years, a tribute was held as part of a fun tournament for Father's Day. Managing director Jürgen Schäfer and first chairman Joachim Fröhner presented the certificate in a festive setting to honor Feldhege's many years of loyalty and commitment to the club. “It is rather unusual these days to be active in a club for so long,” noted Mr. Fröhner, emphasizing the importance of Feldhege’s membership.[localkompass.de]
Feldhege is one of the club's veteran mini golfers and has achieved many successes during his active time. He set a track record at the city championship in 1967 when he mastered the track with 31 strokes. These achievements not only show his talent, but also the enthusiasm that he has retained for the sport of mini golf over the decades. From 1967 to 1970 he was also treasurer of the board and later second chairman until 1986[localkompass.de].
Commitment and dedication
Although Feldhege ended his active career on the pitch in the mid-1980s, he remained loyal to the club. He supported the club's activities, took part in city championships and was always to be found at regulars' tables and bowling evenings. Particularly worth mentioning is his involvement in catering at national minigolf events, where he used his skills and made numerous contacts. Not only his companions were present at the honorary event, but also many old friends who have accompanied him throughout the club's long history, including Anton Hanaussek, honorary chairman Hermann Mühlthaler and Udo Wojcechowski[localkompass.de].
But what actually makes the sport of mini golf so popular in Germany? According to the website of the German Minigolf Sport Association (DMV), there are around 20 million people in Germany who regularly play minigolf. With around 222 clubs and over 8,400 members, the sport has become strongly established in recent decades. This data shows that minigolf is not only a popular pastime, but also a flourishing sport that has a permanent place in Germany[de.m.wikipedia.org].
A look at the history of mini golf
The origins of mini golf can be traced back to the 15th century, when the first “course golf games” were developed in England and the USA. The first miniature golf courses were created in the 1920s and were characterized by their imaginative obstacles. Since the founding of the German Minigolf Sports Association in 1956, the regulated sport has developed further and now includes various types of games such as minigolf, miniature golf and felt golf[de.readkong.com].
Germany's successful performance at international championships, including the 2012 Youth World Championship and the European Championships, underlines the high quality of German mini golf. With many medals and titles, Germany has earned an excellent reputation worldwide. The next big challenge awaits with the upcoming championship, which is organized by the DMV and in which the best players from the clubs will compete against each other[de.m.wikipedia.org].
Günter Feldhege not only remains a role model for young players, but also a part of the long tradition of minigolf sports in Germany. With his commitment and his impressive career, he has made history not only for himself, but also for MGC Rot-Weiß Wanne-Eickel.
