Johanniter in Dortmund: A strong signal for disaster control and rescue!
The “112RESCUE” trade fair, dedicated to rescue services, civil protection and fire protection, took place in Dortmund from June 26th to 28th, 2025. This interesting event attracted thousands of visitors from various sectors, including emergency services and interested citizens. The Johanniter North Rhine-Westphalia presented themselves at the trade fair with a diverse program and two stands where they provided information about their comprehensive range of services. In addition to general information about the rescue service, entry opportunities for volunteers and full-time employees were also offered. The Johanniter particularly emphasized their role as a reliable partner in the rescue service and for their commitment to disaster prevention.
The trade fair offered space for numerous innovative presentations. Visitors were able to admire modern emergency vehicles, including a Unimog ambulance that particularly stood out. The topic of disaster preparedness was also the focus, underpinned by the publication of the brochure “For all cases”, which gives people helpful tips on how to help themselves. Brave visitors were also surprised with a compact emergency kit containing tea lights.
The importance of dialogue
The lecture by Dr. was particularly impressive. Tobias Eilers on violence against rescue workers. He analyzed current statistics and discussed possible solutions. The subsequent discussion showed the great interest of those present in this explosive topic. In his welcoming remarks, Dortmund city councilor Norbert Dahmen emphasized the importance of individual preparation in disaster situations and called for personal responsibility. The attractively designed stands and original giveaways, such as emergency slippers and syringe pens, made the Johanniter appearance a real highlight of the trade fair.
The next “112RESCUE” will not take place until 2027, as the international trade fair Interschutz will take place in Hanover in 2026. Overall, the Johanniter NRW trade fair team drew a positive conclusion from the event, which presented itself as a platform for technical discussions and participatory activities.
Disaster preparedness and protection of emergency services
As part of the trade fair, the role of emergency and rescue services as critical infrastructure (KRITIS) will also be highlighted. Disturbances in this area can have serious consequences for public safety. Federal authorities and emergency organizations are required to identify vulnerabilities and develop strategies to protect emergency services and ensure their operational capability in the event of a crisis. The Be4RCE research project examines the risks and opportunities of IT systems in civil protection, which is becoming increasingly important in the digital age.
The Johanniter would like to thank all employees, volunteers and supporters for their tireless efforts, which make a significant contribution to strengthening the community in disaster protection at events like this. Anyone interested in these topics can find out about new developments and opportunities in emergency services on the Johanniter homepage or from the trade fair organizers.
