Safe through the fall: Police provide information about burglary protection and Pedelecs
Road safety is important to many, and so on Friday, August 19, 2025, special attention will be paid to prevention. From 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., the crime and traffic accident prevention advisors from the Kleve district police authority will be present at the weekly market on Herzogstrasse. Especially with a view to the upcoming dark season, topics such as burglary protection and tips for securing your home and yard will be on the agenda. In addition, the experts will be available at an information stand to educate citizens about safe participation on the road.
After the summer, many people are once again taking to the streets on their Pedelecs or bicycles. But the statistics show a worrying trend: the number of traffic accidents involving Pedelec riders, especially among adults and seniors, is increasing. This is not least because Pedelecs accelerate faster and are heavier than conventional bicycles, which often leads to uncertainty. This makes it all the more important to take action now. Mettmann Police therefore recommends taking part in driving safety training in order to practice using the motor-assisted two-wheelers and to recognize potential dangers at an early stage.
Free Pedelec training offers support
For all those who would like to master their Pedelec better, the Rhein-Erft District Police are offering current dates for free Pedelec training until October 6, 2025. These training courses are particularly suitable for older people who want to find out their individual strengths and weaknesses when driving and at the same time want to increase safety on the road. Registrations for these courses can be made by email, with the number of participants limited to a maximum of 10 people. Here you have the opportunity to work specifically on your own skills.
The Euskirchen police are moving in a similar direction and also offer Pedelec training for senior citizens. The content of the training includes practical driving exercises as well as basic technical knowledge and the safe use of Pedelecs. The participants are introduced to driving in protected areas, such as schoolyards. However, a helmet and sturdy shoes are mandatory.Koeln Police emphasizes that the increase in accidents with Pedelecs requires action.
The offering in Kleve, the information stands and the Pedelec training courses offer an optimal opportunity to find out about road safety and minimize possible risks. Citizens are warmly invited to actively participate in these events and to receive comprehensive advice.
