Kiki Akoua Epanda jumps to the championship title in Krefeld despite pain!

What a day for athletics: Kyriella Joana Akoua Epanda, known as Kiki, demonstrated her skills at the North Rhine Championships in Krefeld. The talented athlete from TuS Oedt not only defended her long jump title, but also achieved a personal best of 5.05 meters. This puts her at the top of her age group and shows once again that she delivers a strong performance despite all adversities. As RP Online reports, Kiki had to limp after her penultimate attempt and was holding her knee, which did not affect her determination.

Triumphing in the midst of pain requires a special mental strength. Kiki had already shown that she would win the competition in advance. Her trainer Markus Hückelhoven was equally impressed and pointed out that Kiki often jumps over 5.20 to 5.30 meters in training. It seems as if she was able to use her skills in the competition at just the right moment, which brought her the narrow victory - in the end, a centimeter decided against a competitor with 5.04 meters.

Honors for commitment to sport

Another highlight for the sports community in the region was the honorary event organized by the Grefrath Community Sports Association. A total of 237 athletes were honored, including Kiki, who was named the best young athlete of the year. Mayor Stefan Schumeckers and Thomas Türk, the chairman of the municipal sports association, applauded the outstanding commitment of the athletes, as can be read on Grefrath.de. The event took place in the well-attended educational center of the Liebfrauenschule Mulhouse.

TuS Oedt in particular was well represented: 13 members received honors for their sporting achievements, including Gabriele Wazlawik, who took her sports badge for the 36th time. The evening was not only a celebration of awards, but also a tribute to numerous volunteers who work tirelessly for the sport. This also includes Thomas Türk, who was honored for his achievements in lifeguarding.

Athletics in focus

The enthusiasm for athletics is unbroken in Germany. Around 7.9 million people show great interest in this sport, with running and jumping disciplines particularly popular, as Statista notes. The German Athletics Association (DLV) now has over 793,000 members and is the sixth largest sports association in the country. The German Championships will take place in Dresden next month, and the eyes of the sports world are already focused on what concrete results the athletes will achieve.

With Kiki at the top and many other talents, fans can look forward to exciting competitions. Athletics in Germany has produced many stars in the past and will certainly maintain its place at the Olympic Games and international championships in the future.
