Police take action: 23-year-old arrested after threatening accident!

Last Saturday morning, August 13, 2025, an incident in Lübbecke caused a stir. A car was discovered in a ditch on Westerbachstrasse, but the driver was no longer there when the police arrived. The law enforcement officers were forced to initiate a manhunt and were able to find the alleged passenger, a 26-year-old, shortly afterwards. The situation came to a head when it emerged that the suspected driver, a 23-year-old from Lübbecke, had previously threatened his partner with a dangerous object before causing the accident with his car. This threatening situation led to the police calling in special forces to calm the situation.

The suspect was finally arrested on Alsweder Strasse, where he was taken into custody around 7 p.m. He sustained minor injuries. After a blood test on suspicion of drug use, the man was released, probably in consultation with the public prosecutor. Nevertheless, an extensive investigation against him is underway. The police and the public prosecutor's office are taking the situation very seriously in order to prevent possible repeats of such incidents. [NW] reports that clarifying exactly what happened is now the focus of the investigation.

Accident escape in the neighboring area

But traffic accidents didn't just make headlines in Lübbecke. On the same evening there was another incident on Bohlenstrasse. Here two drivers, a 44-year-old in a Dacia and an 81-year-old in a Mercedes, were waiting at a red light. Suddenly a red Audi crashed into the rear of the Mercedes and pushed it onto the Dacia. The driver of the Audi then fled on foot towards Jahnstrasse and left his vehicle behind. The description of the fleeing driver is particularly important for the police. Witnesses reported a man between 180 and 185 cm tall, probably between 30 and 35 years old, with dark blonde hair and a beard, wearing a white shirt and blue jeans.

After the incident, the police launched extensive searches, but were unsuccessful. According to [NRW], such escapes clearly show the dangers in road traffic. Fortunately, the two injured drivers from Espelkamp and Hille did not suffer any physical injuries. An important element of such accidents is timely reporting to the police to hold such drivers accountable. The police are therefore asking for any relevant information by calling (0571) 88660.
