Hupendo market in Lüdenscheid: 1000 useful things for a good cause!

On Thursday, November 27th, it's that time again: The School on the hill in Lüdenscheid opens its doors to what is now the 14th Hupendo market. From 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., visitors can indulge in a colorful world of 1,000 useful items, gift items and delicious treats. The aim of the market is not only to sell beautiful things, but also to support the living conditions of children at the Hupendo School in Nairobi, Kenya. All proceeds are donated directly to the school.

The preparations have already taken place in the work class, where students have worked diligently on their offer. In doing so, they not only want to demonstrate their technical skills, but also gain a practical understanding of education for sustainable development (ESD). “We hope for many visitors and a large donation,” says one student optimistically.

Cultural diversity and sustainability

The Hupendo market not only offers the opportunity to pick up gifts and delicacies, but also brings a touch of culture into everyday life. The offering ranges from creative handicrafts to upcycling products and regional specialties. The idea behind it is to strengthen the local community while contributing to a better educational future for children in Kenya.

But what exactly does education for sustainable development actually mean? The Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) supports numerous projects in this area that not only support local actors such as schools, but also international partnerships. An example of this is the digital ESD self-study course, which many schools take part in to impart comprehensive knowledge of transformative learning processes. Topics such as didactics in political education are addressed and practical starting points for teaching are created. Further information can be found at ESD portal.

How can you help?

Everyone who visits the Hupendo market makes a small but valuable contribution to this important cause. Whether you're buying a handmade object or enjoying a regional delicacy - every euro counts. And the best thing about it is: At the same time, you support the students in actively dealing with global challenges.

The websites are available for all those who want to find out more about the Hupendoschule and the school's initiatives at Höh www.schuleanderhoeh.de and www.hupendo.de available. Here you can get comprehensive information and perhaps even make future plans about how you can support us.

So mark November 27th and come along! Together we can achieve something great.
