Olaf Stelse: New momentum for Kierspe – mayor with clear goals!
The political waves in Kierspe remain calm because Olaf Stelse has noticeably improved during his re-election as mayor. The 51-year-old's ceremonial swearing-in ceremony took place on November 4, 2025, after he was re-elected on September 14 with an impressive 73.94 percent of the vote. And that's not all: his result represents an increase compared to 68.7 percent in the 2020 election, which is clear evidence of his growing standing in the city. A reason to celebrate for Stelse and the voters who put their trust in him. This reports Lokaldirekt.de.
The swearing-in ceremony was carried out by Clemens Wieland, the most experienced member of the Kiersper Council. Wieland emphasized that the election result not only signals trust, but also raises high expectations. As a visible sign of thanks, Stelse received a bouquet of flowers that symbolizes democracy, as well as gifts from various factions, including a jar of honey from the SPD and a bottle of hard liquor from the UWG.
New challenges and scope
In his inaugural speech, Stelse gave an outlook on the goals of his coming term of office. Renovating roads affected by the A45 and B237 closures is high on his agenda. He is also planning to expand local public transport between Rönsahl and the Oberbergischer Kreis. The improvement of the cycle paths and the schoolyard across the comprehensive school should also be promoted.
Another big issue is medical care: Stelse wants to ensure that the citizens of Kierspe are well looked after. In addition, there is the energetic renovation of municipal buildings and municipal heat planning in order to make the city sustainable and future-oriented. Commitment to wind power will also be an issue, as will the designation of further commercial areas in order to advance Kierspe economically.
Political landscape
In the local elections, the UWG was able to gain three new seats in the city council, while the SPD and the Greens lost seats, which will noticeably change the political landscape in Kierspe. Voter turnout was 48.7 percent, significantly higher than the 45.6 percent in the previous election. Despite the challenges, Kierspe is doing well under Stelse's leadership - and the citizens continue to show their willingness to invest in our shared future. A positive aspect, which was also highlighted by returning officer Kerstin Steinhaus-Derksen, is the positive development of voter turnout.
In his inaugural speech, Olaf Stelse emphatically called for respect and openness among the council members. Only through collaboration is it possible to tackle the challenges ahead and achieve a lot together. It remains to be seen how the mood and commitment in the city will develop.
