Jamaica cooperation in the Mettmann district: majority for green energy transition!
Something is happening in the Mettmann district – and it’s happening big time! The so-called “Jamaica Cooperation”, consisting of the CDU, Alliance 90/The Greens and the FDP, has declared itself the new majority in the district council. This was announced by the agreement of the three party executives on December 22, 2025, and the mood is optimistic. Dr. Jan Heinisch, the district chairman of the CDU, praises the continuation of the cooperation, which was already sought before the local elections. Intensive negotiations followed to integrate the new district administrator Bettina Warnecke into the alliance. Ina Besche-Krastl, co-chair of Alliance 90/The Greens, emphasizes the importance of a stable democratic majority, while Alexander Steffen of the FDP emphasizes the importance of compromises. This shows a good hand in politics that should contribute to stability in the region.
A focus on the environment
But it's not just the political decisions that determine the day: a central theme of the cooperation is climate protection. That's why we want to concentrate on promoting plug-in PV systems. After just 17 minutes, the funding volume of 50,000 euros earmarked for photovoltaic balcony modules in the district was exhausted. This shows how interested citizens are in climate-friendly energy production. On September 19th, the cooperation group applied for an increase in the funding pot in order to cover all applications received on time this year. For the coming year, there are plans to double the funding volume to 100,000 euros. The individual funding amount depends on the performance of the plug-in PV system and can be up to 400 euros for systems with a maximum output of 600 watts. This is particularly pleasing for tenants who previously had no opportunity to generate climate-neutral electricity themselves.
As part of these initiatives, the funding program fits perfectly into Germany's major climate goals, which include switching to renewable energies, particularly solar energy. Germany has one of the most extensive funding landscapes in the world. In addition to subsidies for PV systems, citizens also receive support through tax breaks and KfW development loans. These programs are relevant not only for homeowners, but also for renters, businesses and cooperatives.
Another plus is the feed-in tariff, which is guaranteed for up to 20 years for solar power fed in. For the year 2025, this means a remuneration of 8.1 to 8.5 cents per kilowatt hour for private systems (<10 kWp). And if you want to implement your solar projects even more effectively, you can also use low-interest KfW loans.
A look into the future
The idea of Jamaica cooperation on the topics of climate and sustainability is providing a breath of fresh air in the Mettmann district. The measures to increase solar support could not only be beneficial for the environment, but also for the region's economy. Commitment to renewable energy could not only help achieve climate goals, but also create jobs.
It is therefore to be hoped that the cooperation partners will implement their plans with a healthy amount of drive and commitment in order to make Mennte a role model for climate-friendly energy production. The response from the population shows that waves could be made - after all, there is something in the air.
Support these positive developments and focus on sustainability - good business is being done in the Mettmann district!
