Traditional bread baking in the Hochdahler Backhaus: Register now!
On Tuesday, September 9th, will take place in Historic bakery in Hochdahl a very special event will take place: baking bread together! From 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., those interested have the opportunity to bake traditional bread like in great-grandmother's time under the guidance of local award winner Rudolf Becker.
What can participants expect? Together, wholemeal flour, salt, water, oil and yeast are used to make delicious bread. Around 50 breads are produced, which can not only be tasted on site but also taken home. This is a wonderful opportunity to immerse yourself in the history of bread baking, as it also provides exciting information about the craft and the history of the bakery.
Conditions of participation and registration
The participation fee for this course is 15.00 euros. In order to take part, registration is required and must be done by September 7th at the latest. Registration can be done online at www.vhs-erkrath.de, by email vhs@erkrath.de or in person at the VHS office in the Hochdahl Community Center during regular opening hours.
Warm clothing and sturdy shoes are recommended for the event, as the bakery uses tradition and the original star oven. In addition, for hygiene reasons, jewelry must be removed while baking bread.
Additional courses in the historic bakery
Another course in Historic bakery will take place on Saturday, October 19, 2024. Here, up to 12 participants interested in history can bake their own bread together with Rudolf Becker from 2 p.m. and learn a lot about the traditions of bread baking. Registrations are possible until October 14th. Here too, the participation fee is 15.00 euros and registration is similar to the September course.
At a time when crafts and traditions are increasingly being pushed into the background, it is even more important to support and experience such events.
