The preparations for this major event were not without challenges. The organizers had to deal with financial aspects. It turned out that the budget for the games had been increased from the original 113 million euros to 160 million euros. How NRW.de reports, Prime Minister Wüst justifies these costs with the need to act as a host. According to the same source, the state of North Rhine-Westphalia has provided around 67.5 million euros in funding and is relying on a concept that, in addition to innovation and sustainability, also focuses on the use of existing sports facilities.

However, Niklas Börger, Managing Director of the Rhein-Ruhr Games, explained that adjustments to the event concept were the reasons for the changes to tenders.
