The Advent season in Münster is just around the corner and promises particularly festive moments this year. Whether contemplative mulled wine, artistic crafts or colorful lights, the city center will be transformed into a radiant place from November 24th, 2025 to December 23rd, 2025. How MS Current reports, the six Christmas markets are the heart of the event. Here is a small preview of what visitors can expect.
The town hall courtyard and Klemensstrasse attract visitors with handicrafts and culinary specialties. The St. Lamberti light market impresses with its blue pointed-roof stalls and the largest Christmas tree in the city. In the Christmas village at Kiepenkerl, Westphalian style is reinterpreted with half-timbering and traditional craftsmanship. The Giebelhüüskesmarkt offers handmade gifts with a view of the famous cathedral, while the X-MS Christmas market on Harsewinkelplatz is entirely dedicated to sustainability. For younger visitors, there is the family-friendly Aegidii Christmas market, which features an impressive wooden pyramid and a carillon.
Opening times and programs
The markets are open from Sunday to Thursday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., and on Fridays and Saturdays even until 9 p.m. In addition to the market activity, there will be a diverse cultural and spiritual program. Those interested can take part in art installations and musical performances in inner-city churches. A special exhibition in the Liebfrauen-Überwasserkirche is entitled “… and evil will not win!” and the 360° light production “LUMINISCENCE” in St. Paul’s Cathedral sets impressive accents.
The Advent singing “Münster singt!” provides some conviviality. on December 7, 2025 on Cathedral Square. Christmas concerts with the title “Do the Angels Hear Bright Songs” are on the program at the Münster Theater. And so that you can really enjoy the Christmas season, the Allwetterzoo Münster invites you to a sea of lights with “XMAS Lights” from November 26th. There is also the Westphalian Christmas market in the Mühlenhof open-air museum on the Advent weekends as well as exciting exhibitions in the Pablo Picasso Art Museum and the LWL Museum for Art and Culture.
