Karlsruher SC celebrates its 1000th game with a clear 2-0 win in Münster!
At the Preußenstadion in Münster today, football fans and players found a reason to celebrate. With a 2-0 win against SC Preußen Münster, Karlsruher SC not only won the first game of 2026, but also successfully played its 1000th game in the 2nd Bundesliga. Marvin Wanitzek was the shining hero of the day, scoring both goals for KSC: one in the 79th minute and the other from a penalty in the 87th minute. Karlsruher SC thus ended an unpleasant winless streak of five defeats and one draw and increased to 25 points in the table, while Münster remains close to the relegation places with 20 points Schwäbische reports.
The game started with a strong offensive from the hosts. Münster used the first few minutes to apply pressure and had several good chances, including from Sertdemir in the 4th minute and Benger, whose shot was brilliantly saved by KSC goalkeeper Hans Christian Bernat in the 21st minute. Although the first half was dominated by Münster, the result remained unchanged at 0-0 at the break, which was due to the good effort of the KSC defense. Bernat in particular was in top form and also defused a powerful header from Benger (22nd minute) as well as an attempt from Hendrix (33rd minute) and Batista Meier (36th minute).
A turning point in the game
In the second half the game took a decisive turn. In the 50th minute, a supposed goal for Münster was withdrawn after video evidence, which had a major impact on the course of the game. In the 77th minute, Münster's Paul Jaeckel received a red card for a foul on Lilian Egloff, further complicating the situation for the hosts. The free kick that followed was converted precisely by Wanitzek and put KSC in the lead.
Despite being outnumbered by Munster players, KSC remained dangerous and was able to convert a penalty in the 87th minute. A foul in the penalty area led to the decision, and Wanitzek didn't need to be asked twice and pushed the ball into the net to make it 2-0. The KSC was able to make history and the team is looking forward to the upcoming games with new courage. The number of spectators of 10,231 in the stadium proves that interest in football in Münster remains unbroken, even if there is likely to be great disappointment with the result.
For coach Christian Eichner and his team, this victory was particularly important in order to restore confidence and at the same time continue the positive trend in the 2nd Bundesliga. The KSC has now survived the last seven duels against Münster undefeated, which further increases the team's pride. The statistics also show that KSC scored 1.38 goals per game in the match, while Münster scored 1.31, as Bundesliga describes.
This match day not only brought the KSC an important victory, but also increased the satisfaction of the fans who traveled with them. With a view to the challenges ahead, the team will do everything in its power to free themselves from the unusual situation of the last few weeks and to further establish themselves in the table.
