Shocking moment in Everswinkel: Two young people in hospital after an accident!

In the early morning hours of October 17, 2025, a serious traffic accident occurred on the K20, also known as Hoetmarer Straße, near Wieningen. At around 1 a.m., the Warendorf police were called to the incident, which involved a 19-year-old driver from Schönberg and a 16-year-old motorcyclist from Ostbevern. The motorcyclist's 17-year-old pillion passenger was also involved in the accident.

The accident began when an animal crossed the road. The young driver reacted quickly and braked sharply to avoid a collision. Unfortunately, the motorcyclist behind was unable to stop in time and collided head-on with the car. Both the motorcyclist and his pillion passenger fell and were injured as a result. Both injured people were immediately taken to hospitals in Münster by ambulance, while the animal that caused the incident ran away unharmed.

Investigations underway

The police have already started investigating the exact cause of the accident. It will also be examined whether the distance between the vehicles and the road conditions could have played a role in the accident. While the accident was being recorded, Hoetmarer Straße at number 41 had to be temporarily closed, which led to traffic delays. The police are asking possible witnesses to call 02581/600-230 to obtain further information about the incident.

Statistics on traffic accidents in Germany show that such accidents are often triggered by factors such as previously inadequate traffic safety, careless driving or unforeseeable events such as the sudden appearance of animals. Destatis emphasizes that traffic accident statistics represent an important basis for measures in legislation, traffic education as well as road construction and vehicle technology.

The accident victims and their relatives are now hoping for a quick recovery. It remains to be hoped that such incidents can be prevented in the future through better education and infrastructure measures. There is a saying: “Prevention is better than cure,” and this is exactly where the potential that can be developed through the analysis of such accidents lies.
