New birth calendar NRW: Discover the most popular birthdays!

In the last 25 years, a lot has happened in the birth landscape in North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW) - this is shown by the new birth calendar, which the Blomberg News reported. From 2000 to 2024, around 4 million children were born in North Rhine-Westphalia. An exciting detail: The months with the highest birth rates are from July to September, which is sure to please many parents who decide to have a summer children's birthday party.

The most common birthday falls on September 20th, when an average of 492 children are born. If you compare that to the rarest birthday, December 25th, the numbers can hardly contradict it. The number of births falls on Christmas Eve and New Year's Day, which suggests that many expectant parents would rather forego the joy of having a child around the holidays.

Entries from the registry offices

The new birth calendar is based on the reports from the registry offices in North Rhine-Westphalia. All live births who live in this federal state are included in the statistics, regardless of whether it was a home birth or a hospital birth. The Statistics NRW ensures high data quality through electronic data delivery and plausibility checks. In addition, births abroad are also taken into account if they are subsequently certified in the German registry offices.

A special observation are the so-called “schnapps paydays” like February 2nd. or February 22nd, when an above-average number of births are registered. Studies show that planned cesarean sections and inductions of labor often occur on weekdays. However, cesarean sections account for about a third of all births in hospitals, which is an interesting figure that can be crucial for expectant parents.

Birth rates and trends

But what about birth rates in Germany in general? The Federal statistics explains that the combined fertility rate indicates how many children a woman would have on average. In order to keep this number stable and to replace parents with the generation of children, we need a birth rate of around 2.07 children per woman in Germany. This combination of factors is crucial for future population policy in Germany.

Overall, it shows that the birth landscape in North Rhine-Westphalia is diverse and dynamic. With the new birth calendar we not only get a clear overview of birth trends, but also interesting insights into parents' preferences when choosing a birthday. We can also be curious to see how these numbers will develop in the coming years.
