Hendrik Wüst inspires at the CDU local round at the Gleis Eins brewery!
The Oberberg CDU met for a “local round” with Prime Minister Hendrik Wüst at the Gleis Eins brewery at Engelskirchen train station, and the atmosphere couldn’t have been better. Numerous local actors gathered at this cozy get-together on August 27, 2025, including mayoral candidates from Oberberg, such as Klaus Grootens, Raoul Halding-Hoppenheit, Sven Engelmann and Nadja Hansmann. Some volunteers from various CDU local associations and steadfast members of the FDP were also there. The round was an excellent example of how commitment and civic responsibility can come into play locally.
The opening words were spoken by Lukas Miebach, who personally worked as a speaker for Armin Laschet and Hendrik Wüst for over five years. In his speech, Miebach praised the political representation in the Engelskirchen local council, which includes a wide range of parties. His credo is that cohesion and vibrant local democracy are paramount. It wasn't difficult for Wüst to build on this positive mood.
A look behind the scenes
The Prime Minister, who has been in office since October 27, 2021, spoke openly about personal anecdotes. He talked about his last vacation on the North Sea with his daughter and gave insights into his nature-loving upbringing and his handball days. “Social bonds are essential,” emphasized Wüst, supporting this statement with impressive images shown during his stories.
The event was not only a platform for true stories from the Prime Minister's life, but also for political issues. Wüst recently spoke out clearly in favor of the urgency of active political measures at the district party conference of the Oberberg CDU in Wipperfürth. He campaigned for unity within the party under the best conditions, namely under the current Corona protective measures, and appealed to the delegates to take the citizens' concerns seriously.
An open ear for citizens' concerns
“We have to understand and tackle people’s issues,” said Wüst, who also spoke out in favor of compulsory vaccination as a possible measure against the fourth corona wave at this party conference. This was very well received by the delegates. They stood up and gave wild applause, which conveyed the message of how important it is as a political representative to address the fears, especially of the younger generations, about climate change.
Wüst, born on July 19, 1975 in Rhede, is an experienced politician. He has been a member of the state parliament of North Rhine-Westphalia since 2005 and has already held many key positions in the CDU, including as ministerial head of the transport sector. He was recently discussed as a possible candidate for chancellor for the Union, but decided to put his own plans on hold.
The discussion about the challenges of today and the idea of strong cohesion were the heart of this evening. The evening ended in a positive atmosphere, which shows that communication and community are more important than ever, even in such important times.
