Volleyball season starts: Experience the Turnerbund Osterfeld up close!

The indoor season for volleyball players in North Rhine-Westphalia is just around the corner and the Osterfeld Turnerbund is ready for the start. It starts next weekend, and the first chairman of the volleyball department, Patrick Syrowiszka, is optimistic: He describes the upcoming season as “really interesting”. With over 300 members, many of whom actively take part in the games, the Turnerbund is not only a traditional popular sports club in Oberhausen, but also an attractive starting point for young talent.

This season the club has registered eight teams in the adult performance area, plus two hobby mixed teams and 13 teams in the youth area. Despite the encouraging number of members, the department has already had to reject interested volleyball players due to hall availability and coaching capacity. This shows how popular the volleyball offers are in Oberhausen.

Challenges and ambitions

The women's teams also show promising prospects: the first women's team plays in a syndicate with TV Voerde in the association league, while another team competes in the state league. The junior teams set themselves ambitious goals; They are aiming for good results in the top league and should also take part in the West German youth championships. Things look similarly ambitious for the men: After a double promotion, they are now fighting to stay in the Regionalliga-West and want to establish themselves as a solid community.

However, there were also personnel changes: the department had to temporarily do without the young player Markus Koster, who would like to develop further professionally. But the gymnastics association has positioned itself well and is pleased with new additions such as Thomáz Santos from Brazil, an experienced setter, and Pascal Ertner, a talented diagonal attacker with a past as a top performer at TB Höntrop.

Starting signal for the men's team

On September 21, 2025, at 4 p.m., the men's team will play its first home game in the Theodor Heuss Realschule sports hall. Spectators are warmly welcome! Further information and ways to contact us for trainer engagements can be found on the Homepage of the Osterfeld Gymnastics Association.

The sport of volleyball has experienced positive development not only in Oberhausen, but also throughout Germany. According to that Volleyball Association The regional associations are recording steadily increasing membership numbers. Over 26,000 new members were registered in 2024, making volleyball one of the most dynamic sports in the country. Another positive trend is the increase in female members, who now outnumber male members. The DOSB reports an increase of 890,000 memberships in a total of 28,764,951 sports clubs in Germany. However, it remains a challenge to find enough voluntary trainers and trainers, especially in times when many sports facilities need to be modernized.

With all of these developments in mind, the Osterfeld Gymnastics Association is looking forward to an exciting season that will be approached with a lot of passion and commitment. The sport of volleyball has its finger on the pulse of the times, and the Kolping city of Oberhausen, with its talented players and committed coaches, has everything it takes to shine in the coming season.
