Police increase presence: Focus on security for Halloween in Essen!

Preparations for Halloween in North Rhine-Westphalia are in full swing. In Essen, for example, the police have decided to strengthen security measures. This year, additional emergency services, including a hundred, will be present in the city to prevent riots like those in the past. In recent years, particularly in Essen-Bergmannsfeld, there have been incidents in which firecrackers were thrown and emergency services were attacked. This is reported by the WDR.

It's not just in Essen that the police presence is being increased. People will also have to be careful in Marl. Mobile video surveillance systems are in use here and security personnel will be increasingly present at stops and in vehicles. The mayor of Marl described the situation as an “attack against the state” after serious attacks with stones and firecrackers occurred last year. Citizens and police agree: Halloween should be safe.

Halloween events and spooky moments

However, many fun and creative events also take place elsewhere in the region. There are Halloween events in Dinslaken, Hünxe and Voerde-Spellen, with Voerde-Spellen particularly in the spotlight with its large horror cabinet. Here, residents rely on real eye-catchers: scary tunnels and large scarecrows characterize the picture. In Mönchengladbach, however, the Vitusbad shines in blood red and attracts attention. Young people in Hamm-Westtünnen show that Halloween can also be used for good purposes by collecting donations for a children's hospice with a scary house.

The cultural scene in Münster also reacts creatively to the Halloween season: The Cineplex is showing “The Rocky Horror Picture Show” including audience rituals, and the Bochum “Rottstraße 5 Theater” is hosting a special screening of the silent film “Nosferatu” with live music. Such events not only bring horror, but also a lot of fun and a sense of community.

Demonstrations on the streets

In times when safety and celebration have to go hand in hand, we can only hope that everyone involved takes responsibility. North Rhine-Westphalia Interior Minister Herbert Reul's appeals to the public are clear: follow the law so that Halloween remains a festival of horror and joy this year, without any unpleasant incidents. Let's all hope for a safe and spooky night together!
