District league preparation: CSC and Germania show strong performances!
Football preparations are already in full swing in Wuppertal and the district league teams are showing their best side. On the weekend before the official start of the year on February 1st, two teams, Cronenberger SC (CSC) and SSV Germania 1900, played their first test matches, which brought both exciting moments and important insights. The Cronenberg Week reports that the CSC played an intense duel against the regional league team FC Remscheid on January 18, 2025, which ended in a 2-2 draw.
The encounter was marked by many highlights. A supposed opening goal for Remscheid in the 14th minute was not recognized due to a handball. In the first half of the game, the CSC failed to capitalize on their chances to score, while Ramzi Ben Hamada gave Remscheid a 1-0 lead and Dominik Heinen increased it to 0-2 shortly afterwards. Nevertheless, the CSC showed fighting heart. In the second half, Robin Brkic reduced the score to 1:2, followed by a wonderful equalizer by new signing Anouar Chourak in the 81st minute.
Subsequent test matches and challenges
Given the current staff shortage, the CSC expects a real challenge in the next test matches. A game against the A district league team SC Sonnborn is scheduled for January 20th, followed by a game on January 25th against the district league team FC Blau-Gelb Überruhr. As the WZ notes, the CSC is already struggling with serious injuries that are further straining coaching and player resources.
In contrast, SSV Germania 1900 got off to a brilliant start in their test games. There was a convincing 2-0 win against the district league team SV Hösel, which was characterized by the new signings Levin Ceylan and Tarik Özkan, who both scored in the first half. The team controlled the game and didn't allow their opponents any chances to score - a strong performance that gives them courage for the challenges ahead.
SSV Germania also already has its next opponents in mind. The A district league team SV Jägerhaus Linde awaits on January 20th, and a week later they will face the district league team Rhenania Hochdahl, who will kick off at 3:30 p.m.
The current test match season offers the teams the opportunity to optimally prepare for the upcoming challenges in the district league and to demonstrate their skills. It remains to be seen how the two Wuppertal teams will develop and whether they can take the positive energy from the test games with them into the regular season.
