Traffic jam horror on November 6th: Update on the traffic situation in Remscheid and the surrounding area!

What's happening on the streets around Remscheid? Today, November 6, 2025, the traffic situation is once again a hot topic. As the Rheinische Post reports, there are numerous traffic jams, construction sites and accidents, which primarily affect the A1 and A46 motorways as well as various federal and state roads. The region is a major transport area and thanks to a collaboration with TomTom and constant monitoring using GPS data from millions of mobile devices, the data is updated every five minutes.

A particularly severe bottleneck is the A1, which records almost 6,500 hours of traffic jams between Cologne and Dortmund. This makes the A1 one of the main traffic jams in Germany. The A46, which runs between Düsseldorf and Wuppertal, is also not without its features. It ranks as the sixth busiest route in North Rhine-Westphalia. The large road construction project at the Wuppertal-Nord motorway junction is being followed particularly closely here.

Traffic situation in the region

The federal highway B229, which connects Radevormwald with Remscheid, and the B237, which leads from Wipperfürth via Hückeswagen to Remscheid, are of essential importance for commuters. In addition, the B51/B51n is an important link that links the A1 entrance to Burscheid with Remscheid. Drivers in Burscheid are particularly often stuck in traffic jams around the A1 on- and off-ramps, which poses additional challenges for traffic.

The L74, known as “Kohlfurth”, forms the connection between Müngsten and the Wuppertal-Sonnborn motorway junction. It is also one of the region's main traffic arteries. The B483, which connects Hückeswagen, Radevormwald and Schwelm, also contributes to the traffic situation. With the L101 state road, which connects Altenberg with Dabringhausen and Hückeswagen, the region is networked in many ways, with the traffic load constantly growing.

Tips for drivers

Despite the traffic jams that have increased in German cities in recent years, transport remains a key resource for ensuring mobility. The situation is continually being analyzed, as the report from the Federal Ministry of Transport shows. The publication “Traffic in Numbers” provides a comprehensive overview of the current mobility trends and infrastructure statistics in Germany.

For anyone interested in deeper insights into traffic data, the current edition of traffic statistics - available in PDF and MS Excel format - offers a valuable basis.
