Rhein-Kreis Neuss is giving away 1000 climate trees - reserve now!
In the Rhine district of Neuss, everything will soon revolve around greenery. The district is giving away 1,000 “climate trees,” and that could be a real win-win situation for the environment and citizens. From Monday, October 20, 2025, at 8 a.m., interested citizens will have the opportunity to secure a tree by making an online reservation. The offer represents a continuation of the positive response from the last four years and shows how important citizens' commitment to environmental protection has become.
The types of fruit on offer include the popular apple varieties Elstar, Wellant and Boskoop, the Gute Luise pear and the Hedelfinger Riesenkirsche cherry. New to the range is the Wellant apple, which is known for its sweet taste and is good for allergy sufferers. There are also various tree species to choose from, such as the plum, medlar, rowan and sweetgum. The trees are delivered in pots and reach a size of between 1.70 and 2 meters.
The aim of the initiative
The aim of the campaign is to get citizens actively involved in environmental protection. Every newly planted tree binds carbon dioxide (CO₂) and thus makes a decisive contribution to combating climate change. When fully grown, trees can absorb at least 15 to 30 kg of CO₂ per year, which gives them a central role in balancing nature. This makes them real heroes in the fight against global warming. According to gruenes-archiv.de, trees and bushes with high CO₂ turnover are crucial for climate-friendly renaturation and reforestation.
As a study by ETH Zurich, cited by nationalgeographic.de, shows, there is enough area worldwide to increase the forest area by a third. This is essential to meet the challenges of climate change. With this initiative, the Rhein-Kreis Neuss shows that big things can be achieved even on a small scale.
Reservation and pickup
Anyone interested should hurry: only one tree will be given away per household, and reservations will be made while supplies last. The collection period is scheduled for November 11th to 14th at four locations in Grevenbroich, Liedberg, Kaarst and Rosellen. When planting, the legally required distances from neighboring properties must be adhered to in order to create a harmonious green structure in the neighborhood.
Be smart and make an appointment in your calendar! From October 20th at 8 a.m. there will be further information and the online order form at rkn.nrw/klimabaum. It's an opportunity that will not only beautify your home, but also make a valuable contribution to protecting our planet.
Finally, and this is particularly pleasing, trees not only have a positive impact on the climate, but also improve air quality and the quality of life in cities. If this isn't a win-win situation, we don't know what to do next!
