Bergisches Land on the move: BUGA 2031 and cultural networking in focus!

In the heart of North Rhine-Westphalia, the Bergisches Land is emerging as an up-and-coming tourist destination. The recently discussed plans for the Federal Garden Show (BUGA) 2031 are the trigger for increased cooperation between the cities of Wuppertal, Solingen and Remscheid. Mayors Sven Wolf (Remscheid), Daniel Flemm (Solingen) and Miriam Scherff (Wuppertal) are committed to cultural exchange and the region's tourism future. The start will be celebrated with the exhibition of the renowned photographer Wolfgang Tillmans, which will set an initial creative accent.

As the Wuppertaler Rundschau reports, those responsible are convinced that the region has a high density of attractions. People should be invited to discover the Bergisches Land as an overall experience. The most important sights include the Wuppertal suspension railway, the Müngsten Bridge, Burg Castle, the German Roentgen Museum and the variety of museums in Solingen with the German Blade Museum and the German Tool Museum. The historic old town of Lennep should also be on the radar of locals and tourists.

A cultural future laboratory

The BUGA 2031 is also seen as an important event and source of inspiration for the region. It is part of a series of pioneering events in North Rhine-Westphalia, which also include the state garden shows in Neuss and Kleve as well as the International Art Biennale Manifesta and the International Garden Exhibition (IGA) 2027. These events set ecological, cultural, social and economic accents that are intended to sustainably promote the development of the region Page for BUGA 2031 emphasized.

Wuppertal plays a central role in the city triangle and sees itself as a center of creative ideas and cultural highlights. The legacy of Pina Bausch and the planned projects such as the Pina Bausch Center underline the importance of Wuppertal in the cultural life of the region. The Müngsten Bridge is even aiming for UNESCO World Heritage status, which would further increase the region's attractiveness.

Strong together

The challenges should not be underestimated, but the commitment of clubs, institutions, politics and administration is seen as a decisive factor for positive development. Open dialogue is important in order to create trust and develop a common vision for the future. The framework conditions for a successful BUGA 2031 are thus provided so that sustainable ideas for innovation and social cohesion can emerge from this cultural laboratory.

Mayors and regional decision-makers have reached an agreement based on the desire to intensify inter-municipal cooperation in tourism marketing. This not only supports the economic strength of the region, but also illustrates the willingness of the urban society to take responsibility and actively contribute to positive urban development.

The BUGA 2031 will not simply be a garden show, but rather should be seen as an opportunity and a mission to make Wuppertal and the Bergisches Land attractive and lively. A knack for collaboration and idea development will be crucial to unlocking the region's full potential.
