A45: Full closure at Westhofener Kreuz – diversions and construction site information!

Traffic chaos is just around the corner again! There will be a complete closure at the Westhofener Kreuz on the night of October 29th to 30th Antenna Unna reported. Important bridge work will be carried out there between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m., as the Westphalia motorway is replacing four bridges that carry the A1 over the A45. The A45 in the direction of Dortmund was supposed to be completely closed for a whole weekend two weeks ago in order to carry out drilling work.

But that's not all! The construction work could possibly extend beyond the night of October 30th if the measures are not completed on time. A redirection has already been set up. Road users are directed via the A1 junction Schwerte. For everyone who wants to drive towards Bremen, the Hamm-Bockum/Werne exit on the A1 will remain closed until November 15th. These measures have been extended due to the unfavorable weather conditions, which shows that sometimes the weather thwarts our plans.

History of the construction site

In May, the A45 was closed to traffic from May 9th to 12th due to bridge work. This closure affected the A45 directions towards Dortmund and Frankfurt and created significant traffic disruptions that were also felt far beyond the region. In these cases, national traffic was routed via large-scale diversions and regional traffic was routed via the so-called U2 and U4 diversions, which are already well signposted Ruhr24 shows.

The current work on the Westhofener Kreuz is part of a comprehensive construction project that aims to ensure the safety and performance of the entire north-south connection. These measures, including on thesichter and Eisern valley bridges in South Westphalia, are necessary in order to cope with the increasing traffic load. In this context, the old concrete slabs in the shoulder area will be replaced with new asphalt to improve the quality of the road.

Long term perspective

The goal of the ongoing construction work is clear: to ensure the long-term security and performance of the motorway connections in order to minimize traffic jams and traffic disruptions as best as possible in the future. Autobahn.de emphasizes that measures like these are essential for the long-term use of motorways in Germany, especially with the growing volume of traffic.

We will keep you updated on how the work is progressing and whether further closures or restrictions become necessary. So stay careful and replan your trips in good time to avoid unnecessary traffic jams!
