New school location and interim solution: Unna's education revolution!
There is exciting news in the education sector in Unna: On July 9th, the district town's building committee unanimously decided to instruct the city administration to take measures to use the buildings of the former Falk and Nicolai School. From the 2025/26 school year, a new primary school will open on Brockhausstrasse. This development entails a comprehensive renovation and reorganization of schools that is tailored to the needs of future generations. The city of Unna reports that one of the schools, the Falkschule, will be given to the Unna Christian Clinic (CKU) for interim use for up to two years. The clinic plans to use the premises for courses at the school for health professions.
Another important step is the conversion of the Nicolaischule. This will be converted by the CKU for permanent use as a school location. The managing director of the CKU, Christian Larisch, has already expressed his appreciation for the flexibility of the city of Unna, which makes it clear at this point how important good cooperation between public institutions and school authorities is. Mayor Dirk Wigant emphasizes that the cooperation between the district town and the CKU is of great value for the city.
Hellweg Museum gets a new location
However, the plans are not limited to schools. After the CKU moves out, the former Falkschule will also be prepared for the Hellweg Museum. This is currently located in the castle's listed building on Burgstrasse, which is being renovated. The temporary accommodation in the Falkschule offers both the museum and the city of Unna a valuable opportunity to keep the culture and history of the region alive.
New impulses for the Nicolaischule
The Nicolaischule, which is currently repositioning itself, has updated its own online presence. The old homepage is no longer maintained, which indicates that fresh ideas and impulses are being implemented here too. A JeKiTS concert is already planned for April 19, 2024, while there are a variety of opportunities for students to get actively involved in the school community. Whether at the Federal Youth Games or a fundraising concert - the Nicolaischule is well positioned and regularly brings exciting projects to life.
Collaborations in the school sector have proven fruitful. According to a study that looks at the collaboration between schools and other educational institutions, there are positive connections between collaboration, networking and student performance. The specialist portal for pedagogy highlights how important such collaborations are for the development of school quality. Therefore, the movement in Unna is not only a sign of structural changes, but also of the involvement of everyone involved in future-oriented educational approaches.
All of these innovations also come with new challenges. But Unna is proactive and ready to set the course for a successful educational landscape. The coming years promise many interesting developments that will benefit both the students and the entire community.
