Volunteer Mile in Nettetal: Over 40 clubs invite you to take part!

In Nettetal it will soon be all about volunteering! The “Nettetal Volunteer Mile” takes place in the city center and is a great platform to find out about the diverse opportunities for volunteer work. Over 40 clubs, organizations and institutions will present themselves between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. The aim of the event is to motivate citizens to actively participate and make new contacts. There are lots of topics to discover, from social and cultural commitment to environmental and animal protection.

A highlight of the event will be the exhibition of blue light vehicles. The fire brigade, the Technical Relief Agency (THW), the German Red Cross (DRK) and the Maltese relief service present themselves in all their glory. There are also exciting activities for the little ones such as bobby car races and a bouncy castle! In addition, there will be a rolling forest school on site that will provide interesting information about the local wildlife and the important fawn rescue. That sounds like fun and a lot of learning!

Experience volunteering in a new way

This year there are also some new faces on board: nursing facilities as well as Lebenshilfe Viersen e.V. and the Benedikt-Labre-Haus are setting fresh accents for the volunteer mile. Visitors can get inspiration at numerous information stands and make direct contacts. The AWO opens the doors to its facility on Hochstrasse 29 and offers insights into its work.

The doors to the Volunteer Mile are open to everyone, even without registering. The event is supported by organizations that are traditionally involved in disaster protection. According to the Johanniter, over 1.7 million citizens in Germany are active as volunteers, with over 90 percent of these helpers coming from voluntary work. Their use is becoming increasingly important, not only in natural disasters and damage situations, but also at the local political level, especially in times of growing challenges caused by demographic changes and increasing rural exodus.

Join in and help

But involvement in disaster protection also brings with it great opportunities. Anyone who would like to get involved here has a wide range of options: whether in the medical service, as part of the care service or as a lifeguard - there are exciting tasks for all age groups. The ASB shows that you can not only make a valuable contribution, but also become part of a motivated team that can take care of the safety of the population in an emergency.

Those interested can find out more on the city of Nettetal's website (www.nettetal.de/ehrenamtmeile) and use the contact options for volunteer officer Maria Posthumus to find out more about the club's offerings. It's clear: Volunteering is more important than ever in our fast-moving times and can be a fulfilling and valuable experience for many people!
