Musical highlights will soon be on the program in the charming town of Kempen. On the occasion of two concerts in the historic Paterskirche, the city's cultural team has put together an impressive line-up that music lovers shouldn't miss. On Thursday, October 30th, the distinguished pianist Sergei Babayan enter the stage, followed by the virtuoso jazz musician Lluis Capdevila on Friday, October 31st. Both concerts start at 8 p.m.
Sergei Babayan, who was born in Gyumri, Armenian Soviet Socialist Republic, has had an impressive career. He began his musical training at the age of six and studied under well-known teachers at the Moscow Conservatory. With numerous awards under his belt, including victory at the Cleveland International Piano Competition in 1989, Babayan has a variety of masterpieces in his repertoire, ranging from Schubert to Schumann to Rachmaninoff and Gershwin. He has worked with leading orchestras such as the London Symphony and the Gewandhaus Orchestra and regularly impresses in renowned concert halls such as the Vienna Konzerthaus.
A master of jazz
The second evening belongs to the Catalan Lluis Capdevila, who is known not only as a talented jazz musician but also as a composer. Capdevila, who received a Fulbright scholarship to study in New York, has made a name for himself on the jazz scene. His solo album “Etim”, released in 2020, and the most recent work “Mompou Revisited: Intimate Impressions” show his artistic spectrum. His performance in Kempen promises to be another highlight in his career.

Tickets for Sergei Babayan's concert cost between 12 and 27 euros, while Lluis Capdevila's performance is priced at 18 euros including the ticket fee.
