Groundbreaking ceremony for new fire station: Brüggen focuses on safety!

The groundbreaking ceremony for the new fire station in Bracht took place on June 26, 2025. Representatives of the construction company, the press, the municipal administration and the Brüggen fire department were present at this solemn occasion. The old location, a fire station from the 1960s, no longer meets modern requirements and is being replaced by the new building, which is finally being implemented after several years of planning. The project is scheduled to be completed one and a half years after the start of construction and is expected to cost 9 million euros, as lokalklick.eu reports.

The Brüggen fire department, which currently has 35 active members and also operates a youth fire department with 25 members, presented some of its emergency vehicles at the event. These include three large vehicles - an emergency fire engine, a tank fire engine and a fire department vehicle - as well as three small vehicles, an emergency command vehicle and a command vehicle. The equipment will also include a circular motorcycle, a quad bike and a trailer.

Modern equipment and flexible use

The new building is being built on a plot of 5,007 m², with a floor area of 1,421 m² on the ground floor and 605 m² on the upper floor. The plans provide for comprehensive equipment: 55 lockers for the emergency services, additional lockers for the youth fire brigade, eight parking spaces, a washing hall, management offices, equipment maintenance offices, clothing rooms as well as respiratory care rooms and workshops. A special innovation are the mobile partitions in the changing rooms, which enable flexible use of space.

Mayor Frank Gellen praised the excellent cooperation of everyone involved and emphasized that the new building not only meets the needs of the fire department, but also contributes to the long-term safety of citizens in Brüggen.

A model project for other communities

A similar project is also being considered in Kareth. The market town council had already held a meeting on February 21, 2022 to plan a new equipment house for the Kareth fire department. The total costs for the construction with an outdoor area are estimated at around 2.8 million euros. Fortunately, the new cost estimate is now almost one million euros less than the original plans, informs fw-lappersdorf.de. The fire department recommends a single-story construction that is not only barrier-free but also makes optimal use of the entire space. This approach could soon become the standard for similar projects.

A further look into the future shows the innovative modular construction developed by Hacobau GmbH. This construction method gives fire departments in Germany a cost-effective and time-saving way to construct their buildings. Now that numerous fire departments have already benefited from the robust system, the modular approach is increasingly becoming a model for public construction projects. Hacobau relies on high quality and short delivery times and offers free advice on individual planning of fire brigade projects. You can find more information about this at hacobau.de.
