Kaufland plans to establish itself in Dinslaken: Rumors about a new location!
The events surrounding the Real locations in Dinslaken and the region have caused a stir in recent months. The development around Kaufland is particularly exciting, as it is increasingly positioning itself as the successor to the former Real branches.
How radiokw.de reports, Kaufland has already moved into the former Real property in Wesel. This decision is no coincidence, as the food discounter also plans to take over other closed Real locations. Rumors are making the rounds about the opening of a Kaufland store on Thyssenstrasse in Dinslaken. A possible date is planned for Easter 2026, even if Kaufland does not yet want to comment specifically on these speculations.
The former Real building in Dinslaken has been empty for a year and a half. The discount retailer has expressed interest in attractive locations without providing precise details. Meanwhile, Kaufland is already pulling some strings, because how n-tv.de reports, Kaufland plans to take over up to 23 of a total of 49 closed Real locations and has started negotiations with the landlords. By the end of February 2025, 13 of these locations are to be integrated into the Kaufland network.
Renovations and effects on employees
The renovations in the future Kaufland branches will be decided individually depending on the location. It turns out that some branches can reopen quickly with few adjustments, while others will need months for necessary renovations. However, there are currently no plans to take on employees from the closed Real stores, so the fate of many employees remains uncertain.
Kaufland has taken over over 100 former Real stores in recent years, expanding the sales area by more than half a million square meters. The company currently operates more than 770 branches nationwide and employs around 90,000 people. The management of Real is also speculating about the future occupation of the vacant locations and sees a good chance that either Rewe, Kaufland or Edeka will move into the vacant properties.
There is news, especially in Kamp-Lintfort: An Edeka in the Prinzencenter is being renovated. An opening was originally planned for 2025, but the date has been postponed to the first quarter of 2026. The renovation costs amount to around four to five million euros, and the new Edeka will be the ninth and largest store of the Brüggemeier family of entrepreneurs.
Developments in the region clearly show that Kaufland and other discounters are well on their way to filling the gaps caused by the closures and ensuring local supplies. It remains to be seen how the situation will develop and which stores will ultimately open their doors.
