Serious accidents cause chaos on Wesel's roads: traffic jams and injuries!

An uncomfortable Thursday in Wesel and the Alps caused some unpleasant traffic jams for many road users. On November 6, 2025, two serious accidents caused road closures that severely disrupted traffic. So reported Radio KW that two cars collided at the Grünthal intersection in Alpen. The impact was so violent that one of the vehicles was thrown to the side. Fortunately, the three people involved in the accident, aged 25 to 64 and from Rheinberg and Wesel, only suffered minor injuries. Xantener Straße was initially closed in the direction of Xanten, but the closure was later lifted.

In Wesel there was also a traffic accident on Schillstrasse, directly in front of the Rhine bridge. A 54-year-old driver wanted to turn left from the intersection, but lost control of his vehicle, which also ended up coming to a stop on its side. Here, too, a total of three people were involved, all of whom were only slightly injured. These incidents illustrate how quickly dangerous situations can arise in road traffic.

Statistics and road safety

In 2024, there were around 2.5 million road traffic accidents in Germany - a decrease compared to the previous year, but the number of accidents with property damage increased. Contrary to this development, the number of accidents resulting in personal injuries remains roughly the same. The goal of 'Vision Zero', i.e. no traffic deaths by 2050, remains a challenge, it is emphasized Statista. The most common causes include insufficient distance and inadequate speed. However, road traffic will not be completely risk-free: in 2024, alcohol-related accidents should not be underestimated, with 198 deaths and more than 17,000 people injured.

The clear takeaway from all of these statistics and events is that both prevention and improved infrastructure are crucial to improving road safety. All road users are required to always be attentive and consider one another in order to minimize the risk of accidents. A call to everyone: stay alert and drive safely!
