Wesel stands up: New association promotes diversity and democracy!

In Wesel there is a breath of fresh air in the community. At the end of June 2025, the association “Wesel for Democracy and Diversity” (WDV) was founded to set an example for respectful and tolerant coexistence. With a membership of around 80, this non-profit association is a promising pioneer in the region that campaigns against racism and exclusion. Radiokw reports that the association emerged from a protest movement against right-wing ideologies and focuses on making democratic values visible in the city.

If you take a closer look at what WDV is planning, it quickly becomes clear that there is a lot coming up. There are monthly meetings, city festivals and special events such as the first flash mob on the first Saturday in September, where choirs will sing in front of the cathedral. In addition, training courses are planned that are directed against right-wing regulars' table slogans. The first meeting, to which all interested parties are cordially invited, will take place on September 3rd at the Old Town Hall. If you would like to take part, you should register in advance by email. More details can be found on the association's website, Wesel for democracy and diversity.

A strong commitment to diversity

The motivation of the WDV association goes beyond mere events. The aim is to establish a lasting movement and promote active participation. The association appeals to both young people and experienced citizens to combat social challenges together. Promoting tolerance, respect and peaceful coexistence is the focus of the club's work. Initiatives such as holding workshops, lectures and training courses are intended to help raise awareness of democratic values.

An outstanding example of the active participation of citizens is the great resistance to xenophobic statements that was observed in Wesel in February 2024. In a call for solidarity, many citizens took a stand against racism and for humanity. WDV therefore calls for active participation, be it through involvement in projects or through financial support, in order to realize the vision of respectful coexistence.

Partnerships and funding opportunities

The club's commitment does not go unnoticed. The board is actively looking for partners from politics, business and society in order to gain broad support for the association's goals. These partnerships are important in order to successfully implement the planned actions and create a strong network.

The association is also interested in funding from the Foundation for Tolerance and International Understanding. However, applying for projects requires careful preparation, including proof of non-profit status and statutes, which must be submitted in a timely manner. Detailed information can be found on the website Foundation for Tolerance.

By founding the WDV, Wesel has set an example that stands for diversity and democracy. The coming weeks promise a lot of action and commitment, and everyone who feels addressed has the opportunity to take part and actively contribute to positive change in the city.
