Young film talents conquer Wuppertal: Festival full of surprises!

On October 29, 2025, the creative film scene will gather in Wuppertal as the “red” Young Film Festival opens its doors in the Rex Film Theater. Each training institution brings two exciting film projects that demonstrate the diversity and talent of young filmmakers.

The festival, which also includes an audience discussion with the filmmakers, is a platform for aspiring filmmakers and film enthusiasts who can exchange ideas and network in an inspiring setting. Wuppertal field of view reports that the Bergische Universität Wuppertal has, among other things, two gripping contributions: “Katharsis” by Leon Tanzer and Jana Wülfing shows the fate of a young homeless man in a mysterious parallel world. In “Trust Me” by Alexandra Boniecka, Kim Sani and Franka Luisa Fischer, the student Leila finds herself in a threatening situation after meeting an online date.

Variety of stories

The Siegersbusch Academy also has great contributions to offer. “Werma” by Jorinde Fritsch discusses how important saying no is for the empowerment of a young woman. Lisa Bödefeld's "My Baby's Taking Me Home" is a thrilling look at the nighttime adventures of a partygoer who is pursued by an unknown figure.

The Wuppertal media project shows a special creative approach with “C.U.P. – A French Ballade” by Yvan Klünder. Here, mysterious events at a football game cause excitement. The visual poetry slam “I am” by Tuana Sudiye Turhan, Yaren Zeynep Coskun and Sevda Melek Bilan also questions identity and cultural belonging in just four minutes.

Dynamics in the film industry

The event is not just a local highlight. Similar initiatives also exist in other regions, such as the Bavarian Children and Youth Film Festival (BKJFF), which takes place every two years in different cities. This festival presents the best children's films and the program also includes workshops and exchanges among young filmmakers. Media education Munich emphasizes that such festivals not only honor the films, but also promote the creative talents of the participants.

More and more regional film festivals are focusing on the exchange and visibility of young talent in order to inspire and support the next generation of filmmakers. The “red” Young Film Festival in Wuppertal is a good example of such a dynamic.
