Backfischfest 2025 in Worms: wine, parade and fireworks await!
Preparations for the Backfischfest 2025 in Worms are in full swing. From August 30th to September 7th, the Nibelungen city on the Rhine will once again be a venue for gourmets and partygoers. The annual event attracts young and old and offers a unique flair resulting from a harmonious mix of wine and folk festivals. Markus Reis from Kultur und Veranstaltungs GmbH Worms, who led the press conference together with important players such as Mayor Adolf Kessel and the Backfischbraut Marie Bickel, presented the extensive program. The opening on August 30th at 3:15 p.m. is particularly exciting, when the Bojemäschter will be ceremoniously inaugurated into office on the market square. Prime Minister Alexander Schweitzer is expected to be present.
From 5 p.m., guests can immerse themselves in the regional wine world in the Wonnegau wine cellar, which offers a selection of over 400 wines. For lovers of barley juice, the tapping of draft beer will be celebrated in the festival tent at 6:30 p.m. and the celebrations will really get going. On Sunday, August 31st, visitors can look forward to a colorful parade that will parade through the streets with around 90 groups of participants. If you like sport, you can get your money's worth at the traditional fishing jousting on September 7th from 2:30 p.m. in the raft harbor.
Kitchen magic and attractions
The culinary highlights are provided by local winemakers who offer their specialties, as well as a selection of hearty dishes and tempting sweets. The Stiftskeller will also present regional wines, while wine tastings will even be offered in the Ferris wheel - a popular attraction that was quickly booked up this year.
There is also a varied entertainment program. The evenings in the marquee and wine cellar are accompanied by DJs who ensure the right atmosphere. The little guests don't miss out either: on September 5th there are morning pints, a children's Olympics and a lantern parade on the agenda. If you like thrills, you shouldn't miss the newly designed “Journey to Hell 2.0” ghost train at the fair. The festival site is open daily from 2 p.m. (on Sundays from 12 p.m.) to 2 a.m. and entry remains free.
Finishing with fireworks
Another highlight is the big duck race on September 7th, which starts at 2 p.m. The crowning finale is the spectacular fireworks display at 9 p.m., which brings the festive days to an impressive end. The special atmosphere and the joy of customs characterize the Backfischfest, which takes place on the Kisselswiese on the Rhine and attracts visitors from near and far.
