Postal chaos in Kusel: Hubert Huck waits in vain for his package!
In Sankt Julian (Obereisenbach district), Hubert Huck is visibly frustrated. The citizen has been waiting in vain for weeks for an important package that has been in the Saulheim distribution center (Alzey-Worms district) since June 12th. The shipment tracking does not provide any helpful information. He recently visited the responsible delivery base in Kusel, but they couldn't help him there either. “There's something going on,” thought Huck when the staff on site explained to him that a lack of staff was a major problem. The story of a single man illustrates the challenges that many citizens face at Deutsche Post.
Huck is not alone. In total, he has received three more packages in the last few weeks with a delay of around ten days. Frustrated, he expresses little hope that his important package will still arrive. This is not only a fate for him, but also for his roommates, who complain about the delivery problem. Huck is also waiting for an invoice from a building materials dealer that was sent on July 1st. This has not yet arrived either, which is related to the already mentioned problem of inadequate letter delivery in the district. Letters often only arrive once a week, and a return slip for registered mail is also missing.
The missing overview
Huck makes it clear that he doesn't want to blame the delivery people for the messy situation. A press spokesman for Deutsche Post admits that a lack of staff is often the cause of these difficulties. The new postal law allows more time to be planned for delivery, which in some cases can lead to bundled delivery. Particularly in times of vacation replacements and illnesses, non-local staff are often employed who first have to get used to the job. The consequences are uncertain, and delivery cancellations are unfortunately inevitable. “The tour should normally continue the next day,” said a press spokesman for Deutsche Post.
But what is the user experience like? According to information from Deutsche Post, it is important to check the shipment status regularly. Delivery information will usually be available on the day of delivery. However, there can be delays here too, especially with registered mail, when signed receipts have to be sent to a scanning center. If a shipment is on the way for more than 7 working days, it is advisable to carry out an investigation. Some information is required for this, including the shipment number and details of the sender and recipient.
The reality at Deutsche Post
In addition to the delivery problems already described, it is known that Corona outages and staff shortages have made the situation even worse. Over the last year, Deutsche Post has had to overcome numerous challenges. The public often forgets how much work goes into delivery and how many details have to be taken into account. All of this adds to the frustration of recipients waiting for their packages and letters.
Back to Hubert Huck, who is now struggling with the inadequacies of the delivery services. Even though he has already lost the patience of many, he only has hope that the situation will improve soon. After all, the transport of parcels and letters is more than just a service - for many people it is a matter of everyday life.
A little more understanding of the work of delivery workers and a more effective education process about the new regulations could perhaps lead to an improvement here. But until then, it's time to be patient and keep waiting for the mail.
How Rhine Palatinate, German postal service and Mirror report, the challenge remains. What else can people do other than to keep their heads down and not give up hope?
