Bad Dürkheim is competing in the city cycling 2025 with record kilometers!
Cycling is very important in Bad Dürkheim. This year's CITY CYCLING campaign took place from June 11th to July 1st, 2025, during which cyclists from the region once again pedaled vigorously. In total, the 1,906 participants in 125 teams covered an impressive 426,876 kilometers - a clear increase of 373,138 kilometers compared to the previous year, reports Rheinpfalz.
The aim of the initiative is to leave the car at home and cycle every day in an environmentally friendly way. District Administrator Hans-Ulrich Ihlenfeld (CDU) was visibly pleased with the successful campaign and the sustainable progress: around 70 tons of CO2 were saved by the participants, which not only benefits the environment, but is also a sign of the commitment of the citizens of Bad Dürkheim.
Hard-working cyclists and exciting activities
The person who particularly stood out is Mirko Hackl from Carlsberg, who cycled an impressive 3,087 kilometers and saved 506 kilograms of CO2. Klaus Wagner, the mayor of Grünstadt, came in second with 1,211 kilometers, followed by Marcel Storck from Haßloch with 222 kilometers. Such achievements show the great commitment and enthusiasm that city cycling inspires in the region.
But CITY CYCLING is not just a competition, it also offers many activities to attract more people to cycling. During the campaign weeks there was, among other things, an informative exhibition in the Bad Dürkheim city museum on the topic of “Our grip on the world's raw materials” as well as various bicycle tours and a festival for sustainability in Kallstadt. In addition, a photo competition entitled “Cycling makes a difference” was launched, in which the best pictures can be submitted until July 31st.
A part of something bigger
Since its founding in 2008, CITY CYCLING has developed into an international initiative that encourages people to enjoy the benefits of cycling in everyday life. As the Federal Environment Agency informs, the organizers not only want to encourage more exercise and a healthy lifestyle, but also actively promote climate protection. The competition runs until September 30th and can be integrated into the EUROPEAN MOBILITY WEEK.
For anyone who has not yet founded a team but would like to make a contribution to climate protection, the simple registration process via the website www.stadtradeln.de/bad-duerkheim is a good starting point. The cyclists' achievements not only pay off for the environment; There are also prizes and awards for the most active communities and teams.
The next entertaining event is already waiting: on September 17th at 5 p.m. the closing ceremony will take place at the Zwischenmarkt of the Wurstmarkt in Bad Dürkheim, where the winners will be awarded. Who knows, maybe you'll see one or two familiar faces from this year again - with a big smile on their face and the matching trophy in their hand.
