Burglary squat in Bad Dürkheim: Eva's Apfel gym again target!

At the weekend, the Evas Apfel fitness studio fell victim to burglars again. The crime occurred on Sunday night. The unknown persons entered the building through the roof and left with considerable loot: several laptops, cell phones, tablets and cash were stolen. This is the second break-in in less than a week, as there was a similar incident in the same studio recently. The Neustadt criminal police have taken over the investigation, but so far there are no clues to the perpetrators.

As the police department reports, the owner Marc Wimpissinger was informed by security at 5:23 a.m. He arrived at the scene about ten minutes later and immediately called the police. As quickly as the security service arrived on site, the officers immediately launched a manhunt. A suspicious person was noticed who had been seen a few minutes earlier at the entrance to a nearby shoe store. However, it is currently being determined whether this observation has anything to do with the break-in.

Predatory burglaries and increasing crimes

The burglary numbers are not only worrying in Cologne. The current retail crime situation requires further consideration. According to a report from the National Retail Federation, the industry is seeing an alarming increase in shoplifting: 93% more incidents since 2019, and dollar losses have increased by 90%. These figures reflect the rise in organized retail crime, which has increased by 57% compared to the previous year. In many markets there are now over 1,000 shoplifting cases every day.

Another problem is the increased aggression that comes with these thefts. The assessments show that 91% of respondents believe shoplifters' aggressiveness has increased since the COVID pandemic. Security measures are being taken by many retailers: 66% have taken additional security measures to protect their stores.

Prevention and protective measures

In order to protect themselves and others from further break-ins and crimes, affected business owners should regularly check their security precautions. In the event of theft, it is important to act quickly, especially when it comes to personal documents. As the Polizei-Beratung states, the loss of an identity card should be reported to the authorities immediately and the online ID function blocked. In this way, consequential damage can be avoided.

The increasing numbers and the need to find innovative solutions to prevent theft is reflected in technologies such as the Purchek® solution, designed to minimize shrinkage in retail. This technology is flexible and provides preventive protection to reduce theft and improve profit margins. The time for change in the way we approach theft and security seems now more than ever.

The investigation into the incidents in Eva's Apfel has not yet been completed. Witnesses who can provide information about the break-ins are asked to contact the Bad Dürkheim police station immediately.
