Sausage market fun: City administration kicks against showmen!

Things are really buzzing in Bad Dürkheim at the moment! The 609th edition of the Dürkheim sausage market opened on September 12, 2025, and the city shines festively under the sign of wine. Until September 16th, and after a short break from September 19th to 22nd, a total of 600,000 visitors are expected who want to immerse themselves in the world of 80 different Riesling varieties. In addition to the main vintage - the 2024 vintage - guests can choose from a total of 300 wines, including 29 sparkling wines and seccos as well as 11 non-alcoholic options.

And what could be more fitting than a good football game? For this reason, an exciting match will take place on the SV Rot-Weiss Seebach artificial turf pitch on Thursday at 5.30 p.m. With a kick-off at 5 p.m., the sports teams from the city administration, district administration, Stadtwerke Bad Dürkheim and the Pfälzische Pensionsanstalt will compete against a selection of the Wurstmarkt showmen. The city team's supporters include prominent faces such as Mayor Natalie Bauernschmitt as well as wine dignitaries Rani Kurajouli (former Dürkheim wine sovereign) and Charlotte Weihl (German wine queen).

Tradition and entertainment

The football game is not a newcomer, on the contrary: it was launched for the first time in 2018, inspired by a previous duel between a RHEINPFALZ team and city authorities. The result was an unexpected draw! Referee Michael Schlösser will remain in control this time too, while the operations team will provide drinks. And after the referee's whistle sounds the end, the players and their supporters go on to the Wurstmarkt, where social hours await.

At the Wurstmarkt itself, the wines on offer are stable in price, which ensures good business for visitors. A half-liter Riesling spritzer is available from 5.50 euros and a quarter of wine starts at 4.50 euros. For those who are hungry, numerous Schubkarch stalls are available until the last guest, while the wine village with its 13 restaurant tents offers slightly higher prices. A festival tent with beer from the Allgäu rounds off the offer.

Arrival and security

The question of how to get there certainly also arises. The organizers strongly recommend arriving by public transport to avoid traffic and searching for a parking space. Around 2,200 managed and around 1,500 unmanaged parking spaces are available. There are secure bicycle parking spaces for cyclists, and tram lines 4 and 9 offer direct connections. There are special parking spaces on Salinenstrasse for arriving buses.

With fireworks at 9 p.m. on the last day, September 22nd, and the opportunity to get autographs from 1. FC Kaiserslautern, the Wurstmarkt remains a highlight until the end. Security will be ensured: 600 police and security personnel are keeping an eye on the situation, and comprehensive measures have been taken to ensure a safe festival.

The atmosphere is simply unique, and whether playing football or enjoying a glass of wine - here you can enjoy life to the fullest. The sausage market in Bad Dürkheim simply has a special charm that attracts visitors from near and far.
